The Ashton Keynes Community Shop is a 'not for profit' organisation set up to ensure that the people of Ashton Keynes could continue to benefit from having a shop in the village and that the shop is able to provide a range of services, as well as selling groceries, newspapers etc., to benefit everyone.
The shop was established with assistance from The Plunkett Foundation, a national charity that supports rural communities. We continue to receive support from them with advice and information about similar enterprises throughout the UK. Recently, they observed that for a village of our size, we should have more members than we do in order to better represent the views of our community and demonstrate that we have significant community support . By becoming a shop member, you help to keep the shop relevant to our community and demonstrate to funding bodies that we are a well supported and valued village amenity.
You can become a member of the village shop by buying a share (cost £1) and completing an application form. A paper copy of the form can be obtained at the shop, or the on-line form here can be completed. The £1 cost of a share is payable at the shop and needs to have been received before a share can be issued.
Shares can neither be traded nor transferred to anyone else.'
Share certificates are normally issued by e-mail.
Please also sign up to receive information about events at our village hall, another great village facility, and support them too.
Become A Volunteer Today and Make A Difference to Our Community
By becoming a volunteer, you will be able to help with all aspects of working in the shop.
If you have no experience, don’t worry! Training will be given so before you start to help you will be able to use the till, the Lottery systems and the PayPoint terminal as required.
The shop is planning to make more use of social media to keep our customers up to date with special offers, special events (such as the local supplier’s market), new products and other useful shop news.
If you have the skills to help us in this drive, please do get in touch; you could make a very positive difference in keeping our community informed.
How you’ll benefit by becoming a volunteer:
- Learning new skills
- Meeting new people both within and around our community
- Knowing you are helping more dependent neighbours
- Being able to make a difference in the long-term viability of the shop and the sustainability of our local community
If you have the aptitude to work as a volunteer and have a friendly outgoing nature, we would love to hear from you.
Call in at the shop and have a chat with our Manager Steve who can give you more information.
Join our band of helpers to unpack our Monday and Thursday afternoon deliveries and stock the shelves.
